asusv9520-x nvidia fx 5200

greetings .. i recently purchased the asus 128 meg nvidia fx 5200 graphic card .. on the disk that came with the card ,were drivers etc ,,also there was a program called SMART DOCTOR .. so i installed it ,, ran a 3dmark2001se,, with the default settings , and got a mark of 4768.. with the smart doctor set at,,,,,, engine 280 ,and memeory set at 440 , a got a mark of 5214..,,,,,I guess what im asking , is ,, is it o.k to continue useing the smart doctor program?? also , is there another way to boost up this graphic card.. any help or sugguestions would be greatly apprecitated .. im a new beeee , when it comes to overclocking etc , but im willing to learn .. im thinking this forum , is a great place to start school .. ha ha .. cheers ..

 

Id dump the asus program. Use this to up the core and memory clocks, and this to scan for artifacts....ATI tool wont let you overclock but you can scan with it... in games if you memory is to hi you will get random pixels on the screen. If the core is to hi you will get random triangles. Thow if eather are to far it will most likely crash.... But no worries, your odds of killing the card form overclocking are very very slim, I have personly never killd a card or heard of any one killing a card from overclocking it ..just dont run it when its showing artifacts...

 

thanks for replying .. its much apprecitated .. i dumped the asus smart doctor .. i have both the programs loaded , both atitool , and nvtweak .. upon reading the nvtweak readme file , im suppose to have additions to the nvidia controll panel???? if so , im not seeing anything different .. ive restarted .. but it still looks the same .. when i open up the nvtweak program , theres a whole lot of little boxes there , some checked , and some not .. which ones should i CHECK??as i said , im not to fimular with stuff like this , but after browseing this forum , it seems like theres not much trouble to get HELP .. you see ,, im into games .. more so than anything . as an example , silent hunter 3 , enigma rising tide , lock on gold . games like those . and i know those kind of games , need alot of resourses to run . so , im thinking a little TWEAK , would also help . anyways , if you could , enlighten me on those programs you suggested .. without your help , im in the DARK .. ha ha . thanks again . cheers .

 

Up the core about 5 MHz at a time then run ATItool and scan for artifacts, if none are found up it another 5MHz. Keep going until you start getting artifacts then drop it 5Mhz, ( this is your max core overclock). o.k thanks .. i found the clock fequency settings . just one question ,, how long will it take to scan for those artifacts???in the lower left hand corner ,,of the ati tool .. theres a timer .. and a cube thing .. looks like a CARPERT cube .. ha ha ..rotating like . then stops??could ya give me a beief description on whats happening .. im doing as you told me . im doing the core thing at this minute . by the way , theres no fan on this card .. you may be aware of that .. its not the ULTRA . anyways .. thanks so much for replying .. and helping . cheers ..

 

When its spinning its warmign up the card. When it has stoped its scanning. Your card will be to hot when its uncomfertable to keep your finger on any part of it for any lingth of time.

 

no doubt shes hot buddy . i have the side panel off .. anyways , i got the core up to 297 .. i think she wanted to FREEZE??not cold ,, lock up like .. so i reset the defaults .. ha ha . you gotta understand ,, im new to this .. ha ha . im sure you was a bit nervious at first .. ha ha . im considering a VANTEC SPECTRUM FAN CARD.. what do ya think?? around 40 bucks .. is it worth it?? im thinking it would cool her down some .. if i had my time back , i would have come on here , and got IDEAS , on the card . but THATS LEARNING .. ha ha . this card is alot better that the old 64 meg one .. anyways .. when you say HOT?? .. im just touching the HEATSINK . thats whats hot . but the heatsink is kinda hot , even in the normal mode .. ,, after reading stuff here , im getting educated .. if i am to do anything with overclocking , im thinking i need a fan ..wouldnt you agree???? you seem to know alot about computers .. ive read alot of stuff you wrote here on this forum . you are to be COMMENDED , for helping out those of us who are not so smart ,when it comes to the guts of a computer . keep up the fine work . you help lots .. thanks again . cheers .

 

When it comes to video cards overheating. If thare is any part of the card (heatsink ram or any thing) that is to hot or close to being to hot to keep your finger on ..... If its just getting warm you should be ok....

 

finist kind .. i can keep my finger on the heatsink ,, but not FOR VERY LONG ..like 10 seconds ,, normal mode . with the side panel off .. . thats why im thinkin FANS .. i need more air , espically when the case is enclosed .. anyways , before i upgrades anything else , ill be sure to ASK for opinions here . maybe if the card had a fan , i woulded be so concerned .. ha ha . i paid 90 bucks , for that card , but if i had my time back , i would have added another few bucks , and got a better card .. i was told , that HIGH END cards , would not work on this RIG .. as i mentioned allready , im LEARNING . and i wont hesitate to post here .. for sure . well ace old buddy , if ya can , give me your opinion on a COOLING FAN .. that vantec spectrum i mentioned , is 50 bucks ,, to my mailbox . are you fimular with the fan ..????if so what do ya think??again .. thanks for your time and help .

 

Save some $ and zip tie a 80MM fan blowing on it ....

 

sounds cool ..maybe modifiy the side panel .. vent it like .. with the fan attached to the bottom of the case .ill consider that ... i saw a few ideas on here about case modding .. looks interesting .. and i do have tools . like dremel ,and saw hole tools etc . you got me thinking .. ha ha . overclocking , modding , what next???? .. ha ha . anyways .. the computer guy just left . i upgraded the memeory . 1 gig now . i was explaining the overclock thing to him . he has fans .. all kinds .. in the front of my case ,, theres a place for 2 fans .. this case takes the air in from the bottom . so , we are gonna put a fan there in front ,, then mount a fan on the side of the case ,,next where the graphic card is .. and he may have one to mount on the heat sink .. anyways , he is all intrested in getting the case cool . he is not up on the OVERCLOCKING either . but understands the consept .. HEAT can do damage .. anyways .. ill let ya know about the overclocking , when i gets that air flowing smoothly .. cheers again . and thanks .

 

greetings again ace .. several fans here now , includeing one on the top of the heatsink . running smooth .. a few more questions ,, AGAIN , ha ha . im fimular with the nvtweak tool .. moving the sliders 5 mhz at a time .. but that ATITOOL kinda got me stumped .. heres what i see .. i opens the program ,, scans for artifacts ,, and that brown cube stars spinning .. then it stops , within seconds , and a TIMER in the lower left hand corner,,where the brown cube is ,,starts ,, NO ERRORS FOR ,, x number of seconds .. how long do i wait before moving those sliders??those ARTIFACTS , will they appear as soon as i start to scan?????? see ive yet to see those artifacts .. ha ha . another question ,, for my card ,, the fx 5200 , do you have any idea where those sliders will be ??like a rough idea ,, i mean?? I HOPE IM NOT COMPLATING THINGS HERE .. HA HA . any help you can give me on that ATITOOL ,, would be greatly apprecitated .. cheers .. and thanks again ..

 

Well my 5600 was stock at 235 core and 400 mem and it ran 400 core ad 700 mem. Though i had a very mild volt mod.... run ATItool for like a min. or two then up it some more..

 

well ,,i get 300 core , and 420 memeory .. thats the limit .. i saw the artifacts .. they beep like .. well ace old buddy .. ill be fine now .. ill play a game here , and see how she reacts .. in the meantime , id like to thank you for the help .. any other suggestion , or tweaks you may have for this RIG ,, you let me know .. and guide me through em , like you did this tweak ... ha ha .. cheers buddy . thanks alot again ..

I need help in finding out just how far i can overclock my box ...what should the core and mem clocks be at initially? and im trying to find a readme file for the ATItool .... i just want to be able to play my games and stuff w/o ANY lags my box is all stock... a p.o.s compaq presario with an AMD athlon64 3800+ and GeForce 6150 le i got windows xp media sp2 please HELP any info will help greatly..im broke and this is the only box i got for a looooong time .....:major
