Not sure if it has happened to some of you before, that sensation that you get some sort of Midas touch turning everything you touch into crap. Well, I do feel like this sometimes, while it usually doesn't bother me when I am dealing with personal belongings, it can really affect me when it happens with borrowed stuff.

Right now, I am using a borrowed HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC, with an Atheros Wifi card adapter, running on Vista Home Premium SP 2. So, the moment I got the PC and went to my room, I noticed how the pc wouldn't detect any wireless networks. Went to Device Manager and saw that the PC did not detect the Atheros Wifi, nor did HP's wireless assistant do so. I have tried going to the Uninstall programs and run the Atheros Driver Installation Program to no avail, because after completion, the thing refuses to be detected.

Please, do tell me what I can do. Is there any way this integrated wifi card became loose inside the machine? Is it driver side? Do I have to open it? I hope you guys can help me, I am really desperate, and don't want to screw things even more.

have you checked the switch on the side to turn on and off your wireless. IT may be on the front on your laptop.

When you go into network connections can you see a wireless card?

Yes, the switch is on with the light glowing blue.

Whenever I switch it off and back on, instead of disconnecting ALL components, I only get a small window popup saying "HP Wireless Assistant Bluetooth (r) On". When I click this popup takes me to HP Wireless Assistant displaying installed devices, and the Wireless Atheros is nowhere to be seen.*

By the way, thanks a lot for the prompt response. The simple fact you guys replied is encouraging in and by itself!

*Usually, when turning on/off switch the message should read Wireless or Wifi On, Bluetooth On.

I went to Network folder and clicked on Add a wireless device, but detects none.
