The Core 2 Duo is a little more expensive... but which one would be the better overclocker? I'm not looking to do anything real serious... I WILL BE USING STOCK HSF... I'm going to have a decent motherboard and RAM, but will likely be limited by cooling issues (I only want to overclock to save a few $$, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a $40 HSF), so I'm just looking for which one will squeeze out a few more MHz.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks :)

Intels Core 2 line trumps AMDs line up almost hands down when it comes to stock speed performance and annihilates AMDs line up when it comes to overclockability. Take a peak here to get a general comparison. As for cooling I'm not sure how cool (or hot) core 2 chips run, but I know AMDs X2 chips run rather cool. Using a Thermalright XP-90C cooler my 3800+ runs stock at 2Ghz @ 1.35v and tops out around 35c. I'm running it at 2.66Ghz @ 1.5v topping out at 45c.
