    Hey geeks

I recently salvaged (dumpstered) a rig that, after cleaning and some fresh thermal paste, turned out to be an AM2, Athlon LE 1640, a 7200rpm 160gig HDD, functional optical drive. The only flaw was that the power switch was broken, so i replaced the bad one with a good one i had lying around - (replaced at the header). Everything worked! (I WIN!! :-D )
I dont really game, but i do like HD Video, and fullHD played locally uses about 90% of this CPU.

I have a Powercolor HD4870 lying around as well. Will this 4870 reduce the load on my CPU? I like more headroom for other tasks.

    Im running 13.04 + LXDE.

So I have installed the 4870. The card is functional, and I have ample power supply. I've posted on several forums looking for help with this issue, I'll just link my most recent post to get help (I'm getting tired of re-explaining the issue a half dozen times. . I hope its not against the rules to post a link to a thread in another forum, if so, do what you need to mods.

I'm still researching on my own, but i just cant get the HD4870 to work with my system, and I've made so many tweaks that I broke a half dozen things, and had to re-install 13.04. Clearly I need help from someone more knowledgeable than I..
    Thanks, geeks.

Ok, well i guess im wasting my time with this.
Today I tried the tutorial located here: http://minus-code.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-to-install-amd-legacy-drivers-for.html
i've tried a dozen different solutions online, none of them worked, nobody is helping me here or on the ubuntu forums.
I guess it's time to just yank the card out and throw it back in a drawer, forget about the whole thing.
    How disappointing.

I never read this thread but you should have posted in the Linux Forum. There you might have received the advice you wanted from the people proficient in Ubuntu Linux like Hedon James.

You are correct. I thought i had posted over there as well, but after just now looking again I see that I did not.

Maybe a Mod could move the thread to the linux forum for us?
Or perhaps start a new thread would be better?

If you start a new thread, you may get a quicker response than if you wait for a mod to move the thread. There's an awful lot of threads here and a mod may not see this one for days.
