athlon not recognized by win. xp

    i just installed a lot of new h/w including 1g ram, k7 mb athlon xp2700 and finally got service pack 1 for xp but my processor is being recognized as a xp 1500 running at 1.3 g instead of the appropriate xp 2700 runnig around 2.2 g ... i think :) really lost never seen any thing like it any ideas ... thanks

    Try Updating To Sp2.......that Fixed Most Of My Problem I Was Having With Sp1.....you Could Try But I Won't Guerrenty Anything.....

    It's not a problem with Windows XP, it is a BIOS problem. The FSB(front side bus) speed or the multiplier may be set incorrectly. There should be an autodetect feature for this in BIOS, otherwise go to AMD's site and get the proper settings for your processor and enter them manually. There is also the remote possibility that your current motherboard can't be set to support your new processor's rated speed.

    cool sounds like a good idea i;ll give it a shot, and this chick im afraid of sp2 ive heard some nasty computer destruction stories because of it :/ thank you both though ill see what happens
