    Hello.
I have a radeon 9800 pro. The problem is, i cant access the control panel for the card, the display settings. When i right click on the desktop and hit properties, then go to advanced, i dont see any of the tabs i normally due to adjust the card.
Overlay, Displays, etc, all those tabs are missing. i just have the basic windows tabs - monitor, driver, etc.
I'm not sure how this started but i first noticed it after a fresh install of windows xp pro. It would appear that the drivers arent installed, but they are.
When i try to use the catalyst control center, it freezes on the opening splash screen.
I tried installing the complete driver package, and i also tried installing the driver, catalyst control center, and wdm drivers separatly with no luck.

I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of the drivers also. I am using the latest catalyst 5.13 drivers. I also tried the 5.12 drivers but they didnt work either. I tried physically removing and reininserting the card from the mobo, then reinstalling, no luck.

The newer versions of ATI's Catalyst Control Panel require Microsoft .NET framework to be installed. You can download version 1.1 and version 2.0 off of Windows Update website. Check that and see if it helps (you may have to reinstall the ATI software after that, but I am not positive).

thanks for your response, i do have microsoft net framework 2.0 installed.
i tried reinstalling the ati drivers both with and without ati catalyst control panel, and i still have the same problem. catalyst control panel freezes on the startup splash screen, and no display options are available.

The latest ATI drivers are 6.1, FYI. I just checked ATI and they require v1.1 of the .NET framework, do you have that installed or just 2.0?

again, thanks for your response i appreciate it. yes i havent tried those new drivers yet. i have been using the drivers available just before 6.1 also, i THINK i just have 2.0 of the net framework installed. When i get home tonight, i will try using just 1.1 and the newest ati drivers. I'll let you know if that works.
    Thanks!

ok, i installed net framework 1.1, then uninstalled all the ati drivers, then reinstalled the 6.1 ati drivers.
i installed the display driver first, then the wdm driver, then the catalyst control center.
then the catalyst control center worked!!!!!!:) ..so thats great. it seems all the settings work fine.
however, the advanced options normally available when you right click the deskotp -> properties -> settings -> and hit advanced are still not there. i used to have a display tab in the advanced options, as well as others but they're gone.

i used to prefer using that method to adjust settings, so the catalyst center didnt have to run all the time. and i'm not sure if because of this my video card may be somehow limited or malfunctioning, could i be getting a slight performance drop in games?

thanks so much for the help!!

    Hi soulslinga
I only own Nvidia, but they have a shortcut icon for their console on the desktop toolbar. I wonder if ATI has something similar?

After you uninstalled your drivers did you make sure it removed it's directory from from program files folder just in case there is a configeration file in it?

I didnt try that this time, but for a while i was doing that i think during troubleshooting.
plus, i used ati's uninstaller software, so there should be no trace of anything....

steeev, i havent tried the omega driver. Now i'm a little scared to go messing around since i've restored some functionality. Whats the advantages/disadvantages of omega?

The Omega drivers are nothing to worry about!
They are based on the Catalyst drivers, and programmed by someone who knows what they are doing (a former employee at ATI, I believe).
The drivers have been optimised to get a bit more out of 3D applications, such as FPS games, and come with ATI tool tray, and Radlinker, a handy GFX core and memory overclocker. Plus a load of other stuff.
As I say - there's not really anything that could get worse as long as you completely uninstall the current ATI tools you have already.
    Give them a try! ;)
