ATI 9800 TV in clone mode

    Hi guys,

I have what may be a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere (it's one of those things that's hard to find the right words to google). I'm running a 9800 all in wonder with the most current drivers on XP home and I have a T.V. hooked up as a secondary monitor via an S-video cable. What I'm unclear on is: in which area do I set up clone mode and resolution? It can be adjusted in windows and also in the ATI Catalyst control center. I've tried both and have changed every possible setting in Catalyst but I still can't get the resolution to be correctly viewable on the TV (50" plasma). Any ideas? All settings are no longer at default for what it's worth.

    Thanks

edit: The monitor is a Samsung 2232 BW+ set at 1680x1050. The TV is set at the same resolution and is a Panasonic 50" plasma. On the TV I can see only the desktop wallpaper (no running applications) and about 1/4 of the wallpaper is missing along the edges.

It could be a widescreen configuration mismatch. In your configuration (Display Properties > settings) you have an opportunity to select each monitor separate and make one regular and the other widescreen or both widescreen if thats your case (thats why it gets cuttoff at the sides, its displaying a widescreen image in a regular format). As you choose each monitor (1 or 2) you can separatly set them so it will look the best.

The secondary monitor (or your TV) will not have anything on it unless you put it there. And by shifting the images of monitor1 and monitor2 in the settings you can say whether the tv (second monitor) is on the right or left by sliding it there. Then you can drag and drop stuff from the desktop to the other screen or just move your cursor over there to see its actually working.

Each monitor can also have its resolution set independently but the 9800 is old enough, it may not go high enough in resolution to get a great image on a 50" TV.

    Thanks Appzalien,

Are you describing clone mode or extended desktop. I'm just trying to use the T.V. to see exactly whats on the monitor screen, not extend the desktop. I'm at work for another 2 hrs. but when I get home I will check if there is a wide-screen option for each display.

OK, I tried theatre mode but still no luck I have the display on the tv but the picture is only about the left half of the screen, I tried every available resolution too and there were many listed. 1680x1050 likes the best on the monitor. Any other ideas?

Sorry, but I was talking about Extended Desktop, I wasn't aware that clone mode and Extended Desktop were different. You might try doing some searching or ask a few questions on the ATI sites forum. I'm sure your not the first one with this problem and at least there the topics are specific to your type of problem.
