ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 on Widescreen E-Machine

Hi guys,

My aggravating story begins with this. I play a lot of CS, and for the most part my computer SHOULD look great, considering the card and the processor and stuff. However, I've gone through hell trying to figure out what drivers to put on this computer. You see, apparently ATI doesn't release the drivers for mobile products... the manufacturer of the laptop does. And Emachines were bought by Gateway if I recall correctly, so thats a no-go. On top of that, I have a widescreen monitor. So even the newest Beta drivers that ATI released for mobile products don't work since they don't offer any widescreen resolutions, making it ultimately look worse.

This has been a huge problem for me for a year because I have no idea what I'm supposed to do for an outdated laptop driver with a 1280x800 resolution.

Any help would be appreciated!

On my wife's widescreen laptop, we are required to use Omega drivers to get games to work right:

I tried those, and I have an old set of omegas that slightly work, but for the most part its complicated everything and my computer acted oddly on them. I was hoping that maybe there was another solution.

 

I'm having this same problem with my Gateway Notebook. I cannot find a driver update or patch or mod anywhere that will update the 9600 for my computer. HELP!!
