ATI Mobility Registry entry

I am repairing an eMachine laptop with the venerable ATI 9600 graphics. This will be a WOW machine when not working. I need the graphics to be as good as it can get. Progress:

Fresh install of XP Pro with all updates and latest drivers
1 - 2 fps in WOW when I could sign on, often enough the game screen never came on before the server timed me out. The game was afoot!

Removed all traces of the ATI driver and installed Omega
No change

Updated BIOS and reformatted hard drive, Omega drivers
No change

Bought Registry Mechanic
96 Errors in the registry - nothing to lose so I said fix all and rebooted
No video driver, reinstalled Omega and got return of the registry error for it
Invalid entry - the video driver pointed to file 0000000

Again from reformatted disk I arrived at the same place
Invalid entry - the video driver pointed to file 0000000
I entered the ATI file I thought was right with regedit and it now runs with no errors, but is probably not optimal

I am posting to ask what is actually supposed to be in this reg entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE ATI Technologies
CDS 0000 0 Driver
I have file REG_SZ C:\WINDOWS\System32\aticdxx.sys
but that is just a guess on my part.

It is still stable but I have yet to find out what value is supposed to be in the registry at
