    Windows 7 64 Bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 Ghz
    4 GB RAM

    Hi

    I recently purchased an ATI Radeon 5770 card and have had great difficulty in getting the drivers to be recognised correctly.

    I have followed all the instructions for downloading the most recent drivers from the ATI website (both using CCC and just the driver itself), I have uninstalled the problem drivers on each attempt and run DriverSweep in safe mode to ensure total removal of all artifacts.

    Device manager shows the card correctly identified but with the ubiquitous exclamation mark. It tells me;

    "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

    When I ask DM to update the driver it tells me I have the most up to date driver already! I have donethis by both pointing at the drivers downloaded as well as letting it search the internet.

    So, everytime I start the system, I get a message on the desktop saying that either no ATI driver is installed or that it may be the wrong version for my hardware.

    I have searched around the net a bit to find a solution and all I find is lots of people with similar issues bu tno fixes. (The 5770 card seems to be particularly troublesome!)

    Ideas anyone?

    from what i know about digitally signed drivers, in order to install one that isn't, you have to turn User Account Control off. Have you tried and older version? Where are you getting the driver from? try going to the manufacturer's site and also from amd/ati.

    Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    And, is the driver working? How are your resolutions, refresh rates, etc.?

    Installed the driver with UAC off. No difference.
    Drivers downloaded from ATI/AMD site.
    Can't find an older version of Driver that is W7 64 Bit

    What was the old Video Card? If it was nVidia you may want to ensure all traces have been removed. On top of Drive Sweeper you could also run CCleaner Slim 2.35.1219 using the registry cleaner.

    I would try:
    - DL the latest drivers from AMD and leave them on desktop,
    - Open Device Manager >>>>Display Device and try to either "Update the Driver" or "Uninstall" from here "manually navigating" to the Driver on the Desktop.

    If the driver is "corrupted" in anyway uninstalling using this method will allow an update.

    Recently fixed an Audio Driver on an old ladies PC this way because the new driver just would not install, Windows already has "latest driver".

    Video performs worse than before when I was using the mobo onboard video, i.e.;

    1. Windows media center won't run any video
    2. Video runs under WMP for about 30 secs at normal performance and then rapidly becomes choppy with longer and lomger pauses between the 'images', then dies altogether.
    3. VLC will play video but at poor resolution
    4. MS FSX, which I bought this card for, terminates after the startup splash screen saying "Invalid Hardware or Driver Settings. Flight Simulator is not working with your video card. Verify that you have the latest drivers installed for your video card."
    5. For non-taxing graphics tasks, ie web browsing or textual stuff screen is ok. ( at least I have that! :) )

    Previously there was no graphics card in the system, I was just using on-board video on Mobo.

    I did what you said, uninstalled driver from DM, ran CC Reg cleaner and then pointed the system to the drivers on the Desktop. I got the warning again like in my original post about wrong or corrupt driver. It did change the driver to Radeon 5700 Series from the Standard VGA driver (as usual) but still with the problem. Sigh....

    Hi

    Just a thought and may clear this up, ATi Catalyst CCC uses .Net, so install the latest .Net from HERE,

    Then and I know you likely done this but do it again, the steps below nad if your PC is a desktop and this card is a PCI-e one then the latest drivers are HERE (if laptop then do mention this)

    You may want to assess your BIOS settings. What is your motherboard and do you have the latest "chipset drivers"?

    My specific mobo list it as:

    Init Display First - PCI

    Yours maybe still set to the IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) and your having that as the display driver which is now suffering conflicts with the ATI Drivers.

    I have had already set the BIOs to PCI video card not integrated graphics.
    I have updated Intel chipset drivers using Intels update tools.

    My Mobo is a J&W with the following;

    Intel G41 Series Chipset
    Intel Ich7
    Intel GMA X4500 Graphics
    AMI BIOS

    Still no luck with correct video driver being recognised.

    Updated .NET and did as you suggested. No luck.
    Any other ideas?

    Hi

    Win 7 has latest DX11 anyways, it may in some cases for some games need DX9 but that shouldnt cause the driver issue.

    Have you been tweaking any services or settings on this PC as I've not had any issues like yours with Win7 x64 and Ati drivers.

    Try installing the drivers in safe mode.

    Does the PC work ok, with these drivers installed, any graphical issues with games or the Windows GUI, as in the beta of Windows 7 this message would popup alot and still does with some nVidia drivers, its just due to them not being WHQL signed drivers and just ignoring the message allows the driver to install.

    Is this PC a OEM one, as in was bought from DELL, HP etc if so what make and model is it? if a custom build using the J&W motherboard then what model J&W motherboard is it? (eg. JW-IG41M-L3)

    In answer to the Q's above;

    • This is a replacement Mobo for a custom built PC and has been running fine for > 6 months until I tried to install the Radeon card
    • I have not done any 'tweaks', overclocking,etc to the system
    • Performance has deteriorated when trying to use the card with even basic programs requiring graphical support e.g. even when showing a Powerpoint presentation it now tells me the card is not confirgured properly, although it does still work ok
    • WMC refuses to start
    • WMP starts videos (no error messages about incorrect card settings), but any video rapidly deteriorates then stops altogether.
    • VLC will play media, but resolution is not 100% of normal.
    • I have tried many times to do the uninstall of drivers, cleaned with Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, reinstalled drivers in Safe Mode, no effect.
    • J&W model is JW-IG41-MKII

    FIXED IT! :cool

    I have found a temporary work around. Since this issue seems to be about the digital signature of the driver, I disabled W7's function that requires authentication of digital signatures for them to be used by the system.

    This is an option found in the advanced startup menu, reached by F8'ing during windows startup.

    The only trouble is that this setting must be changed for each startup, but thats better than not having the card work at all. ( Of course this then applies to all other non correctly signed drivers, so there is that caution...)

    Maybe ATI will release a correctly signed driver sometime...

    I appreciate everyones help! Thanks.

    Programs like EasyBCD have an option to "allow installation of unsigned drivers on 64-bit systems"

    Not sure exactly how it does it, but you might want to take a look.

    Awesome to note you have "found a workaround", but this shouldn't be necessary. You have switched off that awful "Windows Installation Manager" (can't think of the specific name but the app. that always "prompts" you numerous times about installing any application) is this possibly causing conflicts.
