A sad day for me. :(

My ATI's fan stopped turning and I am in a world of pain and sorrow.

I'm currently on another computer since my computer locks up even if I surf the net. I guess 9800 creates some heavy duty heat...
But back to the point, what do I do? can I fix it myself?
I bought it over a year ago and a few months so I guess warranty is void by now, or maybe im mistaken and if so, where can I take it, or who do i call?

This card costed me $600 back then, and now im so pis*** off that something like this happens after a year....

anyhows, I really could use your help of anysort.

    Thanks and regards,
    Dr.Tall

$600? a year ago? I don't ever remember the Radeon 9800 in any flavor being over $400. Who did you buy it off of? I bought a Radeon 9800 Pro in March of 2004 for $175. Wherever it was, I suggest not buying there again.

In any case... Yeah, you can buy a new heatsink/fan for it. Here are a few that should work:

also DONT USE IT UNTIL YOU REPLACE THE FAN a $200 fan should have lasted a bit longer.LOL :)

If it's only over a year old, then a lot of decent companies will replace or give you a discount on another as a good-will gesture.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to try, and if not then replace the fan and see how you go.

If it was a retail box, made by ATI it has a 3 year warranty. most brands have at least a 3 year warranty on their retail products. Get in contact with the manufacturer. If it is a made by ATI they have a very quick turnaround. I'm guessing you are in Canada, by the price.

Yeah.. get in touch with ATI. I've heard that they will bend over backwards (so will NVIDIA) to keep you happy because the graphics card war is a mother! Seriously though... although you probably don't have a receipt and all that, you have a serial number on the card that will tell them the manufacturing date. They may be willing to help you out to keep your business.

You seem to be a Canadian (by the price you quoted) ... ATI will most likely try to keep you a satisfied customer if you write them -no matter what nationality you are. -But if you drop that you are a Canadian trying to Support Canadian Hardware/Innovation then you will very likely get a quick and generous reply. ATI seems to be working hard to distiguish themselves from Nvidia: take advantage of that and you might just land yourself a new card.

One of the members on another board I frequent had a 9500 Pro fail on him (he bought it from another member used) and they replaced it within 48 hours with a 9800. Needless to say, he is a very happy ATI customer.
