I get a black screen for a couple seconds then a popup says your video card has stopped responding...it does this 3 or 4 times and then BSOD with the STOP error ATIKMDAG.SYS.

This only happens once every couple days but is very frustrating. It usually happens when I have many things running at the same time. Occasionally it goes black a time or 2 then continues running fine until it start again hours or days later.

I removed all drivers and catalyst control center, then ran "Driver Sweeper" in safe mode to get everything out. I then installed the newest driver from the ATI site. I DID NOT install the CCC.

The problem is still there. :(

    My System
    OS-Vista Ultimate SP1 7.2.6001.788
    MB-EVGA NF66 650i Ultra
    Bios- Phoenix 6.00
    Proc-Core2 6420 (No overclocking)
    RAM-(2) 2 Gig G.Skill DDR2 (F2-6400CL5-2GBPQ)
    Timing 5-5-5-15-24
HD- (2) Samsung HD501 SATA HD's (No Raid)
    Video-MSI ATI 4670 (Driver 8.561.0.0
    Sound is built in
    Lite-on DVD Burner

I run 2 monitors, both DVI connected
    24" Dell at 1920X1200
    19" Samsung at 1280X1024

If I use only one monitor the problem is very rare, but has happened at least once. I play very few game but do alot of media editing and such,

    Any help is much appreciated.

I did remove the card and blow out the slot..it seemed pretty clean as this card is only a couple months old and the MB about a year old.

I also tried a the following fix that several people reported working for them on another site.

"Some users have solved the problem by actually uninstalling a windows hot fix, the "KB952287" patch. (Vista Users) "

I thought the problem was fixed...it worked fine for 4 days...then I went on vacation for a few days and when I returned within 2 days I received the BSOD twice. One small change now is that I do not get a popup message saying my video card has stopped responding, it just blinks black for 1-2 seconds several times, then BSOD! Quite frustrating...

I have never seen this problem occur when using only one monitor! But, I really need dual display though... Do you think if both displays were at the same resolution, it may make a difference? I don't know, just guessing and very hopeful I can resolve this issue soon.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Reduced settings to 16 bit color and have been running 5 days without an issue. :p
