I went to add a wireless router between my pc and dsl modem with no luck...

I turned off my pc... the router, then the modem and powered up in reverse after some time. Modem shows lights except for the internet. I notice to log in to the modem and router is the same ip address.

I am also thinking I need to assign the router behind the modem a static ip, designate the router with the static ip.

Looking at DHCP, I am thinking I need to reassign a workable range for the modem and then for the router within the same subnet, using the 198.x.x.x given by both manufacturers but eliminating any possible ip addressing issues by cross assignment of an address.

I have a wireless printer and was connected to the w-router on an open network but was unsuccessful in creating a 'closed, secure' network for the two (attempts failed stating pass keys/code was not the same)

I have good lights on the w-router and then the modem except for the "Internet" light.
