Attempting to install Windows XP

I booted up my pc this morning and it wouldn't boot. It said detecting IDE drives... So I decided to pop in my windows xp disc and tried to repair the installation. However, when it gets to the repair screen, it says "The file 'asms' on Windows Xp Professional Cd-Rom is needed. I don't know why it is saying this because this never happened to me before. I've tried the support from microsoft but this is not working either. I tried to install a fresh copy of windows xp but the screen won't come up when I put the disc in, it only says boot from cd and it doesn't tell me to press any key to continue. However, sometimes the bootable disc works and I can go on to install a fresh copy of windows xp. I deleted my existing partition so I can create a new one, when it was actually setting up it then came up and said "please insert a windows xp disc." ALthough, my disc was already in.. Now I can't go on my PC and I cannot install a new windows installation. Also, I do not have the original windows xp bootable disc on me atm. I have a burned copied of it. Please help me.


Um, I put the disk in and it was setting up the format to 100%. Then a screen popped up saying:

I kept on trying to install windows and now this keeps popping up.

 

Solved. For some weird reason, I inserted my disc in and installed a fresh windows xp the next morning. I used the quick installation not the regular one. I was doing this the day before it installed, and it failed to work. I was so surprised the disc finally went through and now my desktop works. I just have to re-install everything. Thanks again guys.
