Audacity Mp3 extension

if I want to export MP3 with Audacity,I have to download a Lame file and it looks like it is this format DLL (Dynamic Link Library)
Could anyone suggest a free program to undo this file? and has anyone been through this before?

I have tried that and keep getting this error message"Could not open MP3 encoding library"
I cannot seem to open Lame?

 

Put lame_enc.dll in the C:\windows\system32 folder and then reboot. Does it work then.

edit: Can you do the following?
"Edit menu > Preferences > Libraries" and click on the "Locate MP3 Library" button

What OS are you using?

 

It downloads and and then I cannot find it to run it(Lame that is )

 

Im using Xp,I can see it in CC Cleaner.
Maybe I have to reboot

Did you download this file to your desktop? Do not left click this link. You will get a 403 error. Right click it and select save link as or save target. Save it to the desktop.

I downloaded it on desktop like you suggested,it did download like it did in the program files,however,I run it,accept agreement and finish.......and then its nowhere to be found?

 

That is because the exe file is supposed to put the lame_enc.dll in Program Files\Lame for Audacity and that is all. Is it in that location? If you put the lame_enc.dll in the system32 folder as suggested in my earlier post, you can delete it. If you have version 1.3, it looks for the file automatically. If you are using 1.2 the procedure is a little different.

Yes,I now have the 1.3 version,but when I try to export as MP£, it says nothing about that file?
I have read those notes over.

Also, 1.3 is still beta. I would recommend you uninstall 1.3 and install stable 1.2.6

Here is a step by step on how to add MP3 to Audacity. Make sure lame_enc.dll file is in Program Files\Lame for Audacity.

Then select edit>preferences in the menu bar. Then select the File Formats tab.
Under MP3 Export Setup press the Find Library button and then go to c:\program files\Lame for Audacity and select the lame_enc.dll. Press Okay. Now you should be able to export MP3 files.

I changed from the Beta version
I get MP3 plug in in not found and this error message,although I did everything you said

Did you go to Edit>preferences>File Formats like I explained in my previous post?
The plugin is the lame_enc.dll file.

Yes to both,I did edit preference & lame_enc.dll is located in C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity

 

In the MP3 export setup, does it show the MP3 library version number like in my picture? What is the version number shown.

 

No,like in my picture there is no number shown,but the one that is downloaded is v3.98

 

O.K great I got it,I uninstalled and reinstalled :-D
