Hello, I have an HP Pavillion dv6000(front label says HP pavillion dv6704nr but the tag on the bottom says dv6700 to be specific). It has an NVIDIA GeForce 7150M graphics with up to 799MB of shared video memory. It has an AMD 64 AthlonX2. It originally had windows vista although versions of this computer had XP. I got fed up with vista and then loaded XP. Yes, I had issues finding drivers, but with help from a few geeks at majorgeeks I was able to get through what I thought was all of them. I have two left I think. Problem 1 is when I try to play a DVD i get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to turn on analog copy protection on the output display. Try installing an updated driver for your video card" and I have tried updating the video driver at NVIDIA and I reloaded some video codecs at MS. Problem 2 is audio related. My sound works well but when I mute it using the volume control I still have sound at start up and close even though it shows that its muted in the task bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:confused

For your DVD problem, I suggest that you download VLC Media Player. This program will play almost any type of audio/ video file that exists including DVD's.

For your sound problems, the sounds that Windows plays at startup etc are all played through the front speakers. Look into isolating this if at possible. Another option is to turn those sounds off altogether:

Open Control Panel> Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the "sound" Tab. The next needs to be done individually - it's tedious but doesn't take long. In the "Program Events:" box select the events that apply to your problem (Exit Windows, Start Windows, Windows Logon, Windows Logoff etc) Select one of these events and the grayed out "Sounds:" box will become usable. Select "(None)" from the drop down menu. Repeat with all other events you desire to silence.

This will also help windows load up faster since not having to play these sounds is one less thing start up has to do.

Thanks for the input. I'll try the downloads and see. I have tried to play DVD's or CD's with other applications and they all, so far, won't play for the reason I posted.

As far as the sound I get beeps for different programs, and I had sound (loud) at startup and close but could never adjust the volume because when I opened the volume controls it said I was missing codecs.

I am almost at the point where I might scrap the system.:confused

    CURSES VISTA!:cry
