Audio CD Not Recognized by Windows

Howdy guys, back again for a little more assistance. My parents have a nice newer HP Pavilion desktop, model a1440n. It has the latest updates for XP Media Center Edition '05, and uses AVG anti-virus. Graphics card is a nVidia 7300LE, HDD is 250GB Sata, and CPU is Intel Viiv Pentium D.

The trouble is, every time an audio CD is put into the drive, the optical drive runs and runs, the light stays steady, and... doesn't see the disc. No autorun, nothing -- and if I open Explorer and look for it, it doesn't recognize a disc even being in the drive. I'm open to any suggestions and will be here for another day or so, so I can test any theories you might have.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Does the drive recognise a program CD?

Does the music CD in question work in another PC/Stereo?

What is the format of the CD in question? (CD +R or -R?)

    1) Now that we've tried it, no.

    2) Yes, it does.

    3) Not sure about the burned ones; some are CD-RW, some CD-R, some original CD-ROM.
