    Hi

Moved your post to its own thead as better to keep issues seperate as you may have different drivers to the other poster, which could cause you more issues.

need to start at the top and a bit of background, on how did you loose your sound was it a random issue, did you delete a driver accidently, did you try and update it with a driver finder app or have you had malware infection? (if not tested for malware then do so as alot of audio issues can also be traced to a malware infection)

What is your DELL, model version/number and you are at SP2 now or back to SP3?

First off just do the Everest log as written below as it should give us info on your DELL model.

Then open up device manager and tell us what devices have yellow ! marks by them?

For the Sony CDROM try the advice HERE
    or HERE

    :)
First Off David your the man, I have only known one other person PC confident as yourself and they went on to work for the Dept. of Defense lol.

Ok well my info is straight up off Everest and man that was simple...
So yea its SP3, I am no guru and a baby step walk through like you did the other guy would be outstanding but I did do my home work and know I don't have any driver or device and thats from going into "control, sound speech and audio, then clicking sound and audio properties and there simply is no Default Device for Sound, Recording, Midi, Voice as well as a little more homework into the Device Manager and following all the trouble shooting stuff and uninstalling, lol something thats not even there, which was Sound Max Integrated Audio Driver; I think thats the Driver right? which wont Download since there is no Device? Or am I just rambling; sorry... This is where im all screwed up knowledge wise.... I have had some previous malware craps and I think in my own haste I went to "add or remove programs" when I was frustrated and thats when I deleted the entire D:/ Drive with the CD-RW CRX216E which is in the hardware wizard but i get error codes(code 39) and the same with the MultiMedia Audio Controller and Medi Device..... Please help I really dont care how basic the sound is or if I have full functionality of stuff but I think you can help.... I think I really goofed on this one, sorry and thanks for your time........ I mean that!

Sorry I guess I got a little ahead of myself and didnt read the bottom since this was actually noting the Yellow ! marks and I didnt even read all the way to the Bottom.....

    they are as follows:
    The CD-ROM Drives;
    MultiMedia Audio Controller,
    Sony CD-RWCRX216E,
(i was getting way to crafty yesterday and tried to download the)
    MicroSoft MPU Audio Driver,
    MPU-401 Compatible Midi Device
(those are in yellow ! marks too)
(then there is a Yellow ! mark next to)
    Generic USB Hub;
    (that sounds bad)
i hope i didnt farf up this thing too bad, i really just hope to get Sound Max back with the Device to run it so I can hear my songs on my profile lol......... thanks again for any help !!!!!!

    Hi

Well you get somewhat confident on PCs after a few years, and weirdly I do work for a Gov dept!

But back to your issue, try the manual methods to remove the upper and lower filters HERE

Then run the below in the order written as its fairly important to do this in the right order.

Your PC is a Dell Dimention 2400 as reference if you didnt already know and all drivers for it are HERE

But download and install the Chipset driver from HERE and reboot

Then install the Audio driver from HERE and rebbot and check audio, if it doesnt work straight away then follow the below

Goto Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services then look down the list for Windows Audio service and open it then make sure its set to Started and the startup type is Automatic, then click the Dependancies tab and write down the services listed and check each one of them out to see if they are Started and set to Automatic.

    NEXT

Goto Audio Properties in Control Panel and click the Playback tab and in the top download make sure your soundcard is the one picked, like say AC97/Sound Max Integrated or similar and click Apply

    Reboot and test again.

Then let us know what Yellow ! Marks are in Device Manager now.

*I may not be able to reply tonight but I will tomorrow unless someone else has jumped in, in the meantime as some great driver techs on this forum.

when i went to the Playback Tab it wouldnt let me apply anything and in the dispenseraries thing it said everything was automatic using the Plug and Play and the RPC/ Remote Procedure Call

so i went and looked at my device manager and it said the CDROM was properly working but the Media or Basically Sound Max still wasnt working and when I clicked upgrade whatever it said it still didnt have the right software and gave the the code 31,
thanks for your help i feel we are on the right path ill try to re install the chip i guess or both maybe after i re boot and if it still wont work

Wow cheers and you are welcome, yeah at times a re-run of the installs helps too as never know if a previous step or fix may have opened up a driver to install properly, so well done you for sticking at it and now you have audio (neat track BTW in the video).

Nope no con jobs here (some nut jobs) but we at Majorgeeks just feel its right to give back a little of our knowledge to others to help keep PCs fun and audable!

Glad you like the forum, BTW how did you get to hear of us? only curious.

I bet you know where DUKE is... Or UNC, in the States

That should be nough said lol; bout my ingenuity on finding you all lol. No But For Real.... I did a whole mess of research and yahoo searches and honestly once I saw the whole forum related discussions and I knew I could try to emulate, some ideas I just had only one thing to lose David. And that was my Pride from trying so many hours on my own. I knew that after reading your responses to the man, you helped I really had no other choice but to lay my destiny in your hands and I feel blessed since this is my girlfriends PC and since I am out of work at the moment I felt I had to work my *** off to do something around the house, know what I mean......
I have a last question Mr. David. Once is a while in the bottom right corner it says SoftWare Ready To Be Removed and its trying to remove my USB Device and I know it say press Stop To Remove the Device and I obviously wont do that, But I also know the less things in the bottom right hand corner speed up my (server?) or connection, right so I want to stop it from popping up but I cant get it to leave, for the simple reason that I play PETS lol on Tagged lol and I am trying to get a faster connection.... aswellas its just annoying to see after all the work I have put into this project..... Damn if you only knew the Virus that got us a few months ago, which I spent literally days on the phone with Dell and thats how the whole Drivers and Devices made sense to download on Dell which I totally forgot but I think it was SYSTEM???somthing... said it was working with Microsoft.... that was bunk... lol.... anyhow...... Your whole Everest thing is so simple to see what we have I really have to just admire how you all have your #*#) together.......Thanks Major LickMe and LOL or whatever his name was that was another nice moderator and thank YOU DAVID.... ILL BE BACK most likely since this PC is OLDER THEN TIME.... MUCH LUV GUYS LATER or as we say in the states (SEE YA WOULDNT WANNA BE YA)!!!!:zzz

    Hi

Yes less items in the system tray will help speed up your PC a bit, but it wont speed up your internet sadly.

But lets see whats in your startup list and follow the below:

    Hi

From your startup list their are a few items that can be delete or disabled and use this application HERE to disable them (just untick the item in the menus)

Messenger (Yahoo!) - can run this one if and when you need it, running from startup is a waste of resources.

ctfmon.exe - is the alternative input methods for Microsoft Office, so if you dont use speech or other input devices to type into Word, Excel etc then this is not needed and use this free app HERE to remove it easily.

IgfxTray - is the Intel onboard graphics control panel, this can be accessed via the right click > properties on the desktop or its icon in Control Panel

Bing Bar - well thats a personal thing and if you use it then leave it but as it gets added by many freebie apps then it may have been an addition you dont want or need, so if you dont use it uninstall it.

SunJavaUpdateSched - Java Runtime updater, can remove this one, but it will add itself back when you next update Java.

Adobe Reader Speed Launcher - never seen this one speed anything up, so remove it, but like Java it will add itself back when you update Adobe Reader.

    Adobe ARM - disable

SoundMAXPnP - Audio control panel and like the Intel GFX one it can be accessed via Control Panel anyways so not really needed on startup.
