So I have this problem which has been troubling me for an year. Every time my desktop sleeps or when I lock it, the sound disappears. I then have to restart the PC to get the sound back.

    I use windows 8 Pro 32 Bit.
    Sound card: Onbard
Realtek audio driver up to date.

    Please advice.

P.S. The problem has followed me from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

    Hi

Did you upgrade from Win7 to Win8 or was the Windows 8 install a new clean one?

What model is your PC if say from HP/DELL/ACER etc or if a custom build what Motherboard make and model do you have?

In device manager do you have any yellow ! marks and if so by what device?

I think I problem has resolved. Updated the drivers again and now it seems to be working fine. It's a gigabyte motherboard. I went for a clean installation of windows 8.
