Audio driver failure

    I am using Windows XP. I have set the system to go into hibernation mode when I shut it down.

    My problem is that occasionally when I turn the system back on, I don't have any sound. I end up having to uninstall/reinstall the audio driver and then reboot the system to get the sound back.

    I am using Soundmax integrated digital audio. I have downloaded the latest version of the driver and installed but I am still having the same problem.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    What is the brand of PC you have and model version?


    Is your Windows XP upto date with latest Service Pack (SP3) and updates?


    Have you checked to see if your audio driver from the maker is upto date? do get the one from PC or motherboard maker.


    Wierd occurance on some laptops that suffer this hiberantion/sleep and no sound on resume is that the modem driver has shutdown with powersaving, so sounds daft but goto Device Manager and if you have a Modem (as in DUN) then double click it and then click the Power Manaagment tab and uncheck allow this device to bring the computerout of standby weird but modems are voice/fax too, so can turn off audio! <weird thought of the day but worth a go.

    Yes. SP3 with the latest updates

    Have you checked to see if your audio driver from the maker is upto date? do get the one from PC or motherboard maker.

    Yes. I am using the latest driver available from Dell for the Soundmax (Analog Devices) Integrated Digital Audio card.

    The Analog Devices web site states: Please contact either the computer or motherboard manufacturer for SoundMAX technical support and software drivers questions.
