Audio Driver Problems

Here's the catch:

My computer malfunctioned awhile back, brought it into the repair shop, and everything is fine. Except my computer doesn't detect my sound card. I searched around my computer and came across AC'97 something or another. I assume this is my sound card. I downloaded a driver which produced sound, yet songs sounded like the chipmunks were singing each song. Thus I deleted that driver.

My question is, how do I fix this little problem?

Under My computer.....device manager.....uninstall re-boot let windows install.
