Audio Input MAX Realtek AC97 snafu

TV tuner card audio out => Line In => PVR software => File

[] When TV tuner card is initialized, the respective audio input (line in, CD in) changes to MAX value.

[] It is possible to manually adjust level, but unattended recordings are trashed by the distorted audio recording.

[] Is there a way to LOCK the audio level setting of Line In and/or CD In ?

[] Is it hidden in the Registry?

I rolled back from Win XP SP3 to SP2.
Reinstalled the tuner card driver.
Reinstalled tuner in Beyond TV.
At the point where it tested audio, I adjusted the audio level slider to a nominal level.
And that seems to have resolved the problem.

Not sure if it was SP3 but it appears to be the common element.
Will test hypothesis on another machine (Not running BTV).
