Audio Issues, Major Suckage

Hi.

So, I had been having these audio issues along w/ other malware problems. I originally thought the two were related, but after working with the super folks over in the malware forum it seems that they're not...

So, here's what's going on:

This is an HP laptop used for both general home use, and as my secondary computer for pro-audio recording, editing, etc.

A few months ago I noticed a glitchy sound problem - sounds like digital skipping or something - that happens at all times, on all audio software.

Audio software includes Windows Media Player, Sonic, Creative suite, Propellerhead Reason, Steinberg Nuendo, T-Racks 24, Waves Gold Plug-in bundle - all of which had been operating fine for a year before this new problem.

Audio hardware includes the stock audio card - Conexant AC-link Audio, and two outboard firewire interfaces a MOTU 896, and a Presonus Firebox. Again software for both interfaces had been installed and functioning properly before these problems started.

The kind geek from the Malware forum suggested that I try uninstalling my audio card and letting it reinstall, but this didn't help.

I know this one's pretty vague. Thanks in advance for your help. Not being able to use the computer for music is kicking me in the junk big-time.

Pain in the a#@, i know, however i would be uninstalling all media programs including drivers, then re-install one by one,
especially after malware!

Running CCleaner in between these two processes..

Sometimes a workable solution can be painfull!

Really? Could one of the programs be causing everything else to act weird - even when nothing's running, ie. when windows boots up w/ intro music?
