I have downloaded several free joiners, & have had the same problem with all. When I hit 'merge" there is a pop up- I assume it's asking me where I want to save the files- but when I click on the file , it never shows up in the box.(but it does do this when I choose files to join). When I hit the drop down button, the only options are files I wouldn't or couldn't put my new mp3's into (like a song). I try just hitting 'save', but of course, since there's no file listed in the box, it doesn't work.
I've got windows XP2 if it matters.
    Thanks.

Can you give the name of the program you are most recently using or the one you want to use most?

What is the difference between merge and join in the particular program. (Merge sounds like it is asking you to select an existing mp3 to "merge" your new edits into.)

HI, It's just called 'Free mp3 joiner'. The 'merge' is the joining. That is it's only function.

HI, that was one of the 4 I installed & uninstalled! i had the same problem with all, so if you can figure that out, it should help me. Shuangs was another one.
    Thanks.
If I knew how to find the correct(path) name of the 'My music" file & I could type it in, that might help, too.

Hmm, I added two mp3 songs. Hit the Merge button got a save window. The save window opened in Documents, I typed in name and hit save and it started converting/merging the two songs.

I'll see what happens in another minute...I worked fine.

Give that one a try with typing in a name in the Save box and see if it works for you. [When you install make sure to use the custom install option so you don't get a toolbar you don't want.]

I tried Audacity which is the go to audio editing program. It works but is quite a bit more complicated than just adding the files and hitting Merge.

If you can't get one of the others to work it may be worth a go. Instructions here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=editing&i=join

You need LAME for Audacity on Windows.exe to import to Mp3. So install that. Then get Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows

I would think if you still have problems saving the file in any program try saving it to your desktop first and then moving it. (This would rule out a permissions issue about where you can save a file.)

I already downloaded this, & audacity can't find LAME. It doesn't work for me that's why i went to the other programs......:cry

    Hi,

I'm only trying to figure out why you can't save the file. I had no problems with the two programs I tried. I wanted you to do the exact same steps so I could see the exact error message you were getting.

That is the only way I know how to troubleshoot. Try to duplicate your problem and then find an answer. Since I couldn't duplicate your problem I wanted you to try following the same steps I was using and find out at which point it failed.

Give me a link to your preferred program and I will run it. You run the same program and tell me the exact error you get. And we can troubleshoot from there. Or, if you prefer, we can forget it. :)

Well, you didn't tell me that you had tried. Thank you for trying. It must be this stupid computer. I threw up my hands & deleted all the software.
This computer is a millenium upgraded to XP.
I do have one question- If I had Audacity on the F drive & LAME was on the C drive would that have anything to do with why Audacity couldn't find it??
I feel fortunate that I can trim files on Realplayer. I have no problem saving my files from there. Wish they had a joiner on there, too!

Why are you not wanting to use audacity, its a free editor that has very advanced tools.

Did you read my stuff? It wont' find LAME on my computer & i have no use for anything that won't make mp3's. Someone told me I would fall in love with it. I wish I could.

OMG I am so stupid. It must have been PMS brain. When the thing came up, I just clicked on the same file that I wanted to merge, & added an "M' at the end (for merged) & it saved it! I merged a file!
I'm sorry my PMS wasted your time. i will not take full responsibility for it :-Drolleyes
All righty then. I'm in business. Back to work!
    Thank you again!
