Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device (onboard MOBO)
Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)

Friend's boyfriend called me and told me his sound stopped working right after he "cleaned up his hard drive of junk".
I went there and checked Device Manager and it said there were no drivers for his Audio.
I went to a drivers site and d/l drivers for Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio.

Installed and Device Manager now said they were functioning properly.
However the speakers still dont work.
I plugged the speakers into my Laptop and they worked fine.

What do I need to know here?
I told him I'd purchase an audio card but I dont want to do that and then have to return it if that's not the problem. I will. But if there's something else I should check first, I'd rather do that.

His PC is a relatively new eMachine.

Dont know about now, but eMachines used to be VERY unstable, as early as 2 years ago.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Device manager sometimes tells you that it is working just because there are drivers installed but they maybe the wrong ones thus causing the problem. Trying to find the correct driver can make you nuts but it is possible.

The easy way would be to buy a sound card and install. Remove the old onboard sound thru device manager first.

Just a thought, BUT, since his audio worked fine before cleanup, if he has a system restore point prior to that, might wanna try to go back to that and then clean up a little more selectively.

    aren't unimodem a thingy for a VoiceWinmodem???

you might want to look for AC97 drivers instead...

try uninstalling the device in the device manager...reboot the computer and reinstall the new drivers

    hope that helps
