Audio & Video out of sync

    Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right section, if not I apologise.

Basically, been trying to burn some video to DVD for my parents, but the audio is out of sync when it's played on the DVD player, however, it's perfectly in sync when played on my computer.

I've been converting the video files from AVI to MPEG-2 (I think it's MPEG-2?), using Any Video Converter. I've then authored the DVD to create the audio_ts and video_ts folders/files using Cucusoft MPEG to DVD author, and then burning using Imgburn.

I originally thought that it may be that the write speed could be too high, so I went into Imgburn and I changed it so that it writes at 4x, but it still seems to be happening.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

    Chris

Try DVDFlick to go directly from Avi to Video_TS. Guide: http://www.dvdflick.net/guide/index_en.html

The default is two-pass encoding which takes quite a while but gives excellent results for picture quality. For most movies one-pass will save a lot of time and be perfectly adequate.

If you ever want to do a lot of encoding and are willing to pay for a program you may want to look into ConvertXtoDVD.

One other thought is that many new DVD players come with DivX support which allows them to play avi files directly. Again, if you are going to do a lot of re-encoding you may want to consider that option to save time.

Will take a look at DVD Flick when I have the time :).

I tried burning the AVI directly to disc and then playing it on the DVD player, but it wouldn't read it. I'm happy with encoding it to an MPEG, I normally set it run overnight so time isn't an issue with it.

    Thanks

Give DVDFlick a try. It really does provide a good result especially in two-pass encoding. But for a quick view one-pass really is fine and saves time.

I don't see it in the guide but one thing you want to check (maybe under the Video menu) is that the output is set to NTSC rather than PAL id you are in North America. I believe the default is PAL which is European output format.

And you can have the output saved as an ISO file rather than directly burned to DVD which allows you save the video until you know it is burned properly. I prefer to burn it myself but it looks like you can do both save and have automatically burned if you choose. (I don't do a lot of burning DVD movies, only a few times a year so it is mostly guess work for me each time. I leave almost everything as default except sometimes a up the audio volume slightly because of a bad tv speaker system.)

Am currently encoding a film. It's taking half hour to do 13% on video encoding, so could be a while yet. Will let you know if it's helped the situation when it's burned onto disc.

Maybe you can lower the output bitrate or quality of the video. I doubt it but it's a possibility the dvd player isn't able to decode the video stream fast enough, this would result in the audio track playing prior to the video track playing. Nearer to the end of the movie the gap should be greater and eventually audio should stop all together. if this doesn't happen then the issue not with the decode speed of the player but something with the encoding process.

The audio comes after the picture. For example, someone speaks, and then whilst they aren't speaking the audio comes out. It's probably about a 2 second delay.

Have just tried one, still the same. Used DVDFlick as recommended, and then burned it using Imgburn on 4x speed, but still out of sync after a while into the video.
