On today's front page we have Auslogics Registry Defrag. Now, unless I'm completely mixed up, wasn't this freeware a few weeks ago? It now clearly says "Shareware $19.95".

    :confused

Well it has today's date so I'm guessing this new version is now pay.
I guess if you want free, you'll have to find an old version archived.

    Hi

Click report a bad link on that download page and email Tim and let him know as its likely a typo and should have been listed as free.

Well, after checking the Auslogics site, it's true - this formerly free app has gone the way of $hareware, or PAIDware. :(
I attached a screenshot for those of you who care.

(It's a good thing I still have a copy of the free version!)

I think like most other business's it is their "Lost Leader", it is very popular it brings people to their site and hopefully they will purchase other items.

The one I grabbed was the Registry Defrag and was no mention of how I wanted to pay. Just download.
Shows up in my download folder as
    registry-defrag-setup
    version 5.5.0.0
    2.74MB

Unless it asks when installing, I won't know until I try, but it was free to download.

Many older "free" applications are now advertised as "Free Download." Unfortunately, the download is the only thing that is free; once you have the software you will learn that you must pay to use it fully or for more than a brief trial period.

I don't know about the registry defrag app in question here, it may or may not be free to use. In any case why would anyone pay for a program that has such limited functionality. Even if it works perfectly the result of defragging your registry will never produce enough performance gain to make it worthwhile.

Yeah - it looks like OldPhil was confused - I started this thread for Auslogics REGISTRY Defrag, and NOT for Auslogics DISK Defrag. I think the Reg Defrag is free for 30 days or something, or you'll run it, it will do its thing, but won't "finalize" the procedure until you pay for it (similar to how data recovery paid-ware programs work: they show you all the stuff that can be recovered, but you can't actually save it until you pay and "unlock" the program).
