Yes actually IIRC you can run the WGA scan on your PC and likely hood it will fail, which in this case is good as it then gives you soem options and one is that you already have a purchaced key so follow that route and it should take you to a Product Key Update Tool, which you download and run, this allows you to update your windows to genuine with the new key.

DO backup your important files first, even though I have run this tool on a pc before many years ago without issues, their always is an exception.

 

Funny enough that was the version that was on the PC I was called to change the key to legit bought one, only by accident did I come across the tool to update the key from MSFT, I ran WGA for some reason and reading through the failure report noticed if you did have a purchased key you could update, did IIRC take a while as it scanned the PC and their is a reboot, then likely changed the bad files to legit and added the newly legal key.
