Auto scan disk in Windows XP

Sometimes I have a bad shutdown in Windows XP. How do I have it do a quick scan disk when it reboots - automatically. I can't find where to set it. It just boots to normal desktop after a bad shutdown. Does it even matter if it does a scan disk after these bad shutdowns.

 

Hmmm.... I'm not certain how to go about this on an abnormal termination, but maybe this will help:

To create a logon script that runs chkdsk

1. Open notepad and type: chkdsk
2. Save the file as filename.bat
3. Open the group policy editor (if you're using XP home edition, you may have to download gpedit.msc, and save it in %systemroot%\system32), by clicking start --> run, typing gpedit.msc and hitting enter.
4. Under User Configuration --> Windows Settings --> Scripts, right click logon, and select properties.
5. Click the add button, and browse to your .bat file.

Now, whenever you log on, it will run chkdsk.

 

I just want it to run on a bad shutdown. Does everone else's WinXP do that or isn't XP set up the same way as Win98. When my puter with win98 abnormally shuts down it runs scan disc automatically on reboot.

 

I agree; I'm used to seeing it run automatically on an abnormal termination. Can you run chkdsk normally?

Try running this command to reset the chkdsk configuration:
