   Hey,
   When I try and enable the auto update on WinXP Sp2 I can't select anything cause all the options are grayed out?

   First off would be checking your Services to see if Auto Update is set to Disable or Manual... change or make sure its set to Automatic and is running.
   
   Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > look for Automatic Updates.
   
   
   
   next option would be a registry fix but as a last resort.
