i was just informed by someone "certified" by ms that you no longer have the option of selecting which, if any, updates will be installed on your system. i thought that option was inherent in the os and cannot be overridden by ms. he said there are some updates that will self install and then reboot your computer. i said i didn't think so but that i would check with the experts. is it so, guys? 'cause i was going to get a student package but not if it's true. thank you in advance.

I help someone that is running 64 bit Windows 7 on three computers (two desktops and a laptop) and I can check when it says updates are available to only install the ones I select rather than all of them. There was a problem with some of April's updares so I held off on a few. Then it was determined to install one of the problem ones, reboot then install another problem one. It was possible to do it that way.
