I downloaded something bad, I scanned the file with malwarebytz and AVG, no alerts from either.
it had a folder looking icon and the file extention was .scr like it was a screen saver.
In my effort to discover its true nature I activated it.
Several seconds later i get a BSOD that did not look like any i have seen before. 0x00000009ae or something similar to that.
after ctrl alt del did nothing i manually restarted and now when windows comes up i get the loading gif and the flash of bsod and restart
my usual log in is a network log in not the default one.
I used a linux usb thub drive to boot the infected pc and navigated to the location of the .scr file and deleted it.
I think my profile (administrator) may be broken now.
my next step is to plug an INTERNET active Ethernet cable in and boot linux and go to houscall.trendmicro and do a scan of the infected drive.
any suggestions or recommendations and greatly appreciated.
