automatic updates

i have tried turning on my automatic updates i have enabled them in the control panel and the system properties i've went to start,run,services.msc and enabled it and everytime i enable it when i click for it to start the services it turns itself back to disabled and displays Error 1058 the services cant be started either because it is disabled or it has no enabled devices associated with it, i can look in my control panel under security center and it says i is turned off so i click on automatically update my computer(recommended) and click apply and o.k. and it is still disabled, im not sure what caused this problem but can someone please help me????thanks
