I have a friend, using XP, who says that the "copy CD" function has disappeared from his menu that appears after insertion of a CD, how can this be reinstated?
I don't use this menu much, but I have noticed that mine changes from time to time!

I also am interested in the answer to this as I do not believe I have ever had that function.

Looking into how to edit the autoplay options, but I can give this in the meanwhile, maybe it will give some insight:

    1. Open 'My Computer'
    2. Right-click the drive in question, and select 'Properties'
    3. On the drive properties dialog, select the 'AutoPlay' tab

Here, you can see what options are available for the types of media on the disk you've inserted.

Maybe the option is still there, but for a different media type?

Could a program to copy the CD have been uninstalled? It doesn't sound like a Windows default option, but rather a 3rd party addition.

Which would explaing why I would never have had that function - thank you :)

    Thanks for replies.
Firstly, i don't believe software was uninstalled, my friend wouldn't even know how to do this.
Secondly, it is the "copy CD" function we are looking for upon insertion of a music CD, you would think that this was there! I think it is a while since he has copied a CD and maybe imagining things.

But anyway, I believe upon installation of different softwares these menus get added to, software dependent obviously.
    Why can't they be tweaked?

And this is what Mada_Milti was referring to; the additional softwares that could have added to the menu, or created their own. If the software in question had been inadvertently eliminated or corrupted, the menu could cease to appear. You would need to discover exactly what application your friend was using to 'crack' his CDs. Then an uninstall of that app, followed by a reinstall of the same app, could return the menu.

As to tweaking? If there is a tweak function in an application, it might be found in a drop down menu available from the graphic interface of it when it is open in the form of a drop down menu with selectable items such as 'options' or 'preferences'.

Well, this is NOT a Windows default option for music CDs, so it MUST have been added by a third party program.

Here's what I have for music, these are the defaults with Windows:

They can! I said I was looking into it! Here's a way:

    1. Download and install the TweakUI Powertoy
    2. Launch TweakUI
    3. In the 'TweakUI' dialog, expand 'My Computer'
    4. Expand 'Autoplay'
    5. Select 'Handlers'

Here, you can edit existing Autoplay options, or create new ones.
Note that TweakUI isn't 100% necessary for this, as it can be done via registry hacking, but this is a more elegant solution, I think.
