Available physical memory

I've been having trouble playing wma files off of walmart music on wmp9 player. So I got hold of a tech from Walmart and they wanted to know what
my total physical memory was and available physical memory was.

I checked it and TPM is 126.45 MB, and APM is 168.00 KB, very low.
The tech felt that I might have a virus because the available physical memory is so low and somthing is draining my system.

I've ran virus checks,spybot,ad-aware,Mcafee stinger,scan disk.defrag, all in regular mode, and in safe mode. I'm not getting anything back no matter how many times I run the software, It shows the system clean.
I've re-installed WMP9 twice and still nothing with the downloaded music.
The Tech feels I need to do a full recovery on my system which takes alot of time . I did a partial recovery only two weeks ago.I run WindowsME on an hp pavillon 6830.I know a lot of the info is vague but any thoughts on what may be wrong and should I do a full recovery?

So -- how much memory is physically installed in your system? You've told us what Windows -- or whatever operating system you're using -- has reported. What's actually there?

To find out, you may need to look at your system's manual. Or re-boot your system after the monitor has warmed up, and watch the memory scan in the top left of your screen. What is the highest figure reached by the boot-up memory scan? It's usually shown in KB.

If 128MB is what your machine has installed, and if you're running any version of Windows later than 3.x, it's no wonder that you have only 168KB of free memory. Windows 9x and later needs much more memory than 128MB, and will fake the extra memory it needs by using hard drive space. That really slows a system down, and tends to mess up multimedia applications -- especially if it's an older, slower machine to start with.

Check your manual to find out what kind of memory, and how much more of it, you can install.

Download, install and run EVEREST Home Edition

When you run the program do the following:

Click-on Report in the File Menu

Select Report Wizard

Click-on Next

Click-on System Summary Only

Click-on Next

Click-on Plain Text

Click-on Finish

Click-on Save To File

Browse to My Documents

Accept the default file name, close the report wizard and everest. Post the report as an attachement.

 

There it is -- you need more physical memory. 128MB isn't really enough for Win ME. Doubling that will give your machine a significant performance boost. 512MB would be even better if your system will take it. The performance hounds might suggest that 1GB of memory would be good, but I think that's probably overkill for your system.

Crucial's website (at <http://www.crucial.com/index.asp>) will help you figure out what you can use.

And that list of installed software. It looks like you have a couple of duplicates. You might want to remove one version if you have two versions of the same program on your system.

His system should run fine with 128MB of Ram and WinME. That's what is was built with and sold with. Sure more Ram would help the overall performance but I don't think that is the problem here.

What brand of player is it? Have you checked the manufacture's site for info (system requirements) or a updated version of there software?
