available RAM

I have 256MB RAM, of which 64 MB is available. So, what are the other 192MB doing? Is there someway I can find out what is in those other 192MB? I figure if I find this out, I can maybe delete some programs/processes I dont need until I can afford to buy more RAM. I use Windows XP Home Edition.

Do you have onboard video or a video card that uses your RAM like an N6200TC? That would suck up the available RAM. I hope you can get another 256K stick as XP must be pretty darn slow at the moment.

 

Trying to run XP without having a heart attack...

512MB is really the minimum for XP today, you have barely enough to have your computer running at all. I'd follow augie's advice and get another 256MB, at least. RAM is disgustingly cheap right now.

Post the make and model of your computer and we can help you find what you need. If you don't know it, go to www.crucial.com and run the scanner and it will tell you, and recommend upgrades as well. You don't have to buy from them if you don't want to, there are other places to get RAM. Right now, we are just trying to find out what the specifications of your computer are.

 

I agree augiedoggie, a Video Card has it's own RAM and free's up system RAM but onboard graphics (IGP) has to use "system" RAM and draws on that.
