Avast and Eudora

I installed AVG twice, once with the resident shield enabled and once with it disabled)

The first time I installed it (with the shield enabled) I experienced random reboots of my computer and since I couldn't turn off the shields once installed, I uninstalled it and reloaded it with the shield disabled to see if that made a difference............it didn't.....I still got the random reboots.

So I uninstalled it permanently and no more random reboots.

But I want a virus scanner to use with Eudora so I thought I would try Avast. So I downloaded it and registered it and installed it.

But now Avast won't let Eudora check the mail. I get a timeout when I try. It will let mailwasher check the mail but not Eudora.

So I uninstall Avast and Eudora checks the mail.

All I want is a good virus scanner to work with Eudora.....I really don't want a resident shield or anything like that......I just want the e-mail scanned using Eudora.

Can someone either tell me why Avast was having trouble with Eudora or point me to a good virus scanner that works with Eudora and doesn't reboot my computer.
