As a matter of interest, how does Avast have it's own unique balloon tip? Is there a registry edit/hack?

I suspect the "avastui.exe" process is the culprit. Pull up the "Task Manager", locate the "avastui.exe" process, run mouse cursor over the avast icon in tray, watch "CPU" usage for the "avastui.exe" process.

    There is no culprit.
I want to know how Avast has a different balloon tip, i.e. it's green with white text.

It's not important, I'm just curious. :confused

Poor choice of words on my part Eldon.:-o

The balloon tip is being generated by the "avastui.exe" process. With the "Task Manager" open and the "avastui.exe" process highlighted, hover the mouse cursor over the avast systray icon. The "avastui.exe" CPU usage will jump just a little as the balloon tip pops up, then drop again.

    Eldon...

Basically, all the UI elements of Windows can be modded by a developer. avast programmers just tied into the balloon tip interface in Windows and then added their own graphics to the balloon tip.

It's all about controls, which are elements of the OS. A balloon tip is one kind of control, but there are controls for everything in Windows that you see. Seriously, it can all be modded.

    Hope this helps.

    Eldon,

Have you ever noticed it being a different color, say when an update was available or protection was in question? I seem to remember using Avast in the past and the icon would appear different, but have not used it recently enough to have any experience with the tool tip. Othwerwise, I tend to agree with AltBo.

    Thank you.

I was hoping someone knows what registry key to edit to change the colour of the balloon tips. It's not important, I enjoy doing these things.

WinAero is one site where you can download all kinds of tweaks for Windows 7, 8 & 10 - some are visual, and some are practical. In Windows 7, I have changed the background of Windows Media Player 12 just for the fun of it. I have also changed the colour of the mouse pointers.

But, why use a program when a registry edit will suffice?
