Avast! How to exclude printer?

I having been going around in circles with the Lexmark help desk trying to get my printer to work now that I have Avast! installed as per recommendations from MG Malware experts.

Lexmark tells me that Avast! is blocking my documents from printing and that I need another AV program instead ... yes, I know that I really need another printer (NOT a Lexmark) ... but it is what I've got for now and until the funds for a decent printer pop up, I am stuck with it. C'est la vie!

The printer will scan and copy, just not print documents. The probelms began when I installed Avast! and Online Armor.

Ideas are most appreciated!

Are you talking about printing from that computer, or from other computer(s) on a network?

Either way, the conventional wisdom seems to have two issues here: (1) that you want to enable "File and printer sharing" in your firewall and (2) that you want to have only one firewall in place. That is, if Avast! is firewalling for you, then it appears that you want to turn off Windows Firewall. These may not have anything to do with this problem at all, though.

OTOH it may just be that there is some interaction between Lexmark drivers and Avast! which is just not solvable... it sounds like that's Lexmark's position.

Have you checked Avast! user forums as well?

The quickest no-dollar solution I can offer is to shitcan Avast! and use AVG instead. I use AVG - both free and paid versions at different places - and have not seen any problems with it of this type. I know there are other A-V programs around, but I use AVG - I'm not in bed with them or paid, I just use it and like it - so far, anyway!
