Avast problem

Ok, just yesterday I switched over to using Avast as my AV software. Now here is the problem. I turned on my computer today and everything looked great but I am not allowed to access the internet on IE Explorer or Firefox. The funny thing is that I can still access the internet on games and things such as AIM but it wont let my web browsers work.
I checked as many settings as I could but none seemed to work. The only way I can use a web browers is by restarting and shutting off on-access protection.

P.S. I am running Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron laptop.

 

I don't use avast, so I may be wrong. Try disabling web shield. If neither browser goes online, look for IE/FF under infected files in avast. Remove them. I suspect avast thinks or flags the browsers as malware somehow. That happens to my family pc a lot. It's another firewall/antivirus program though.

 

hmmm, what firewall do you have? you might have accidentally blocked access to the internet for avast (for your browsers)? i know when i do an update sometimes my firewall (zone alarm) will ask for permission(s) again, when i fire up my browser(s). how exactly are you disabling "on-access protection (are you totally disabling your anti-virus)?

try to "right click" the avast icon (by your clock) --> select "on-access protection control" --> check your settings in "web shield". - g/l, sos
