Avast problems

  1. Hi folks,
I was wondering if anybody has had problems with avast 4.7
For some reason when I tried to scan Avast would just stop the process. I figured it was missing so I uninstalled it and re-installed it. Now avast won't even work at all. Icon is there, just won't activate. Tried updating, but it just won't do anything. Anybody have suggestions? I checked FAQ page but found nothing. I'm gona try to re-install and see (for the 5th time) If it doesn't work Il check back with you guys. Il also take note of the error messages this time:rolleyes:

    Thanks guys.

P.S. I've been using Avast for years now, I'd like to keep using it.

  2. Nada!
Won't work on startup or manual start. Even when I try clicking icon on desktop it gives me ¨Avast splash screen cannot load configuration¨ and Avast simple user interface cannot load configuration¨ messages, and everything is grey.

  3. Figured I'd try complet uninstall with avast programe, but now I can't reach avast's webpage. I don't know what's going on anymore:confused:

Does your PC have the correct Time & date?

Is your Avast Key an active one, one less than a yr old? after 1 yr you need to request new.

  5. Hi Asus,
Everything checks out. I got another message this time saying ¨the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error¨. I checked it on Avast's site, followed the steps, but nothing positive.

I have used Avast for many years and never experienced anything like this, so i did a little digging.....This is a possibility
As i understand it, the cause of "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)", initiated by NT Authority\System error message, can come from a known virus (Do you also see svchost.exe error occasionally)?

It works by exploiting unpatched Windows 2000/XP operating systems. It's also been named Lovesan (LovSan, LuvSan) or Blaster.

    More info here...http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1831.html

You could run an online scan to double check any suspicions, and if you suspect malware as being the cause, follow our guidelines before posting in the Malware forum!

  8. I checked all of the above, did an online scan with symantec and f-secure but everything seems in order. Avast just refuses to activate.

  9. News in the Avast saga,

I decided to un-install Avast and try once more to re-install it and update it and for some reason it works like it used to:confused: The only different thing is I tried installing it with an oledr version 4.6 to be exact, then updated it to 4.7 and to my surprise no problems. Could it be the 4.7 install was somehow corrupt? I'm thinking of getting a second AV as a backup, maybe bitDefender Free Edition, seems to have scored well in tests.

Yes, I know, I won't run them at the same time.

Thanks for your help ASUS and Nitecrawler much appreciated.:D
