Avast red screen on log on

I get a red pop up with the following message.
avast! Information

The program trial period will end soon.

Click here to remedy the situation...

When I click the link, it takes me to a screen that gives me several options - one of which is to uninstall. Once I go through the uninstall, it asks me to restart the computer which I do. When the computer has restarted, I am back with the red screen! I have searched add remove programs for anything that says avast and am unable to find it..... HELP!:cry

 

Why uninstall just go to the Avast site and reregister your free home addition

I tried the key route - I get an invalid key message.

So I went ahead and uninstalled it. Now after I uninstall it....why should it ask me for a key? If I don't find it in add/remove programs and it still pops up ... to haunt me:confused something else needs to be done.

 

You might try going to the Avast! program settings, Troubleshooting and then check the "Disable Avast! self-defense module". Then try uninstalling.
