avast running?

I don't know what the people in my house did, but the Avast icon is no longer in the start up tray at the bottom of my screen! Why? What happened? Is it still running like it is supposed to? How do I get it back? I looked all through the Avast settings menu and couldn't figure it out. Help please.

Also, the PC Tools firewall icon is no longer there too! I have click on the icons in the desktop for them to show up in the start up tray.

 

Have you tried restarting them? Check your processes in task manager and look for ashserv.exe that's the Avast main program I believe and firewallGUI.exe is part of PCTools.

 

Thanks Augie, I looked in processes and Avast was there but I didn't see my firewall. Perhaps it's listed as something other than the name you gave me. Is avast doing it's job even if it's not in the taskbar? What about the firewall? I can get it to open and show in the taskbar.

 

I couldn't find anything to restore the icons and I'm no uber geek. Perhaps the best thing would be to reinstall both of them.

Would someone please tell me, if the icon is not in the taskbar is the program opened in startup?

Isn't it important that the firewall and anti-virus be opened at startup?

Any ideas on what could have caused this to happen?

Ok, I've got XP and CCleaner. I've managed to re-install Avast and it is in the start up in CCleaner and the task bar. Can I use the windows firewall while I uninstall and re-install the PCTools firewall? Also, everytime I delete this file in CCleaner IT COMES RIGHT BACK!!!

How can I make it never appear in my start up menu again?

For quicktime, everytime you use Quicktime on your computer you will notice this in your startup. I suggest deleting Quicktime and getting Quicktime Alternative from MajorGeeks.com.
