Actually the version of McAfee AVERT Labs Stinger for W32/Polip [version 3.0.2] which you are referring to includes specific detection and repair for W32/Polip only.

McAfee AVERT Stinger v2.6.0 was posted on the McAfee, Inc. website on 4/5/2006 and detects more than 40 viruses, trojans and variants. The file has been renamed to circumvent anti-stinger tactics used by Sober.r. This version of Stinger includes detection for all "known variants," as of February 2, 2006.

Pros: It does not require installation, just download and run. It is a FREE scanner/repair utility that covers the most current virus/worm/trojan threats on the internet. Stinger has a simple interface and gives you options for which drive to scan, archive scan, boot scan, etc. You can choose an action to perform if a virus is detected (delete, prompt, quarantine or rename) and also configure which types of files to scan.

Cons: It takes a very LONG time to completely scan a system; particularly if you are using a large hard drive and/or multiple drives and Stinger can slow down your system considerably; especially if you are using multiple applications while it is scanning.

While this tiny utility is handy; it is by no means a 'substitute' for full anti-virus protection. I believe that it was designed primarily as an "extra tool" to assist users who are dealing with an already infected system.

I had uninstalled 2.6.0 version for the 3.0. Now the 2.6.0 isn't in the MG anti-virus list for downloads. Where can I get it back for download?
