Downloaded from MG's today a copy of AVG 7, uninstalled ver. 6 and installed new ver., everything APPEARS to be running and working fine, but, theres always a but, when I do a "ctrl-alt-delt" I see AVGCC[not responding], also I can no longer do a complete "scan disk" operation using the Win. program, I can however do a "disk fixer" with "Fix-it utilities" and Jet defrag with no problems - I checked the AVG forums site and this seems to be quite a problem with us Win. 98SE users, I hate to uninstall the new ver. and go back to the old one, does anybody have any idea if Grisoft plans to fix these problems, also because of these problems am I really safe with this new ver.????
Some thoughts would be appericated - THANKS

Just a quick update - after making post last night my computer became very unstable, freezing up real bad and other problems - uninstalled AVG 7 (free) and ALL problems disappeared - will reinstall ver. 6 for now - if Grisoft does not fix these problems by the 1st of the year I'll be looking for a new AV program - your thoughts on a different AV proggie - Thanks

Hi,i had AVG free for 2 months, version 6,and liked it.When they went to version 7,i decided to uninstall AVG and try AVAST FREE HOME EDITION---best move i`ve made yet.AVAST FREE is a more complete antivirus program overall----with all it`s features,i`m amazed it is free at all.
I`ve had norton and mcafee in the past---both resource hogs-----AVAST FREE HOME is the best so far.

Thanks Pompste, I agree about Norton, never tried McAfee, I've heard of Avast and will consider it when the time comes

I just upgraded to AVG7 free version and have the same problem (AVGCC[not responding]). However I did some testing and found (a) It still scans ok. (b) Resident Shield is still active, and (c) It downloads updates ok. I am going to stick with it and ignore the (AVGCC[not responding]) message as I know Windblows is quite capable of telling lies with it's error messages. :)

I just downloaded 7.0. When I installed it, it offered to uninstall 6.0, so I let it do it's thing. The uninstall of 6.0 seemed complete, but the computer bogged WAY down after 7.0 was installed. Simple things like going to the Start menu took 3 or 4 seconds to open, and the windows in the Start menu would freeze for a few seconds as I scrolled up or down the list of programs. So, I uninstalled 7.0, cleaned the registry, and reinstalled 7.0. It's better, but still sluggish. I think I'll give Avast a try one more time.
I really like AVG, but I think they've got a few bugs left to fix. :(
