Dwnloaded because my current 7.5 was outdated. I just updated the 8.0 and it tells me "Update successful"...then it says "update files NOT found"... So, currently it shows the avg icon in the registry with the blacked out logo with a red exclamation point over it! Please help....THANK YOU.

    Hi

If you updated your old 7.5 version, uninstall all AVG versions and re-install, make sure your installing in admin account and reboot after installation.

Please do tell us the Windows version your using?

i think that means that it hasnt updated to the new virus definitions? i have 8.0 and it does that when there's no internet connection available...you just have to open avg and select update now.

I just upgraded AVG Free today to 8.0 in my Win XP Pro SP2 system and I also saw some message - I believe it was the same message you saw - during installation but installation did continue and I was prompted to restart my computer. AVG seems to be properly installed and working as it should. I see the evidence that it's monitoring my email.

I was wondering whether I should uninstall version 7.5 first. I searched for guidance on this on Grisoft's site and found info saying 7.5 need not be uninstalled, that installing 8.0 would automatically remove previous versions. I did see the old folders for version 7.5 still in my Program Files folder, after installing 8.0, but those folders, i.e. main folder and sub-folders, were empty and I manually sent them to the Recycle Bin.

Still, I would heed Halo's recommendation to uninstall 7.5 first; I believe that is often the best approach, regardless of what the software maker says.

After installing 8.0, I ran CCleaner's Registry scan, which removed some old AVG entries.

I have installed AVG8.0 on numerous PCs since its arrival, and in about one-third of the installs, when AVG setup starts the updates at the end of the install, the updates fail. But if I reboot, open AVG, and select Start Updates, it works just fine.

i believe, during setup, that a window pops up and says you can't update till rebooting.
