Avg 8.175

I know that there have been dozens of questions concerning avg 8.175 not updating and I have read most of them and may have overlooked the correct answer. I seem to be having the same problem since installing the new version yesterday. but I have tried about everything except the right one and can't get it to update. Has anyone succesfuly gotten this to work. I have tried uninstalling re-installing with and without restarting in between each time with no luck. and also using ccleaner in between.

 

I am running win xp pro I thought I had a sig here but I guess not. Ok it says
Updating progress.
Update failed.
-The connection with update server failed. Please follow these steps
-Make sure your internet connection is active,and please try to open the www avg .com website.
Try to run the update later or schedule an automatic update for another time.
-Make sure the connection parameters are set properly.
I have tried to update using different methods such as tools/advanced settings/update immediately. and through update manager all with no luck. Thanks for the reply

 

I have already done exactly that and for 2 days still no update. The details are the same except I have not had it scan the computer yet. Are you saying that it Must run a scan before it will update. I will try that now just in case. I have the firewall off. when trying to update. I can go to avg site. Update settings are same as yours. Everything looks right but I know it is some simple setting I am just not seeing.

 

Well after another several attempts of uninstalls and re-installs I have given up on avg. I am trying avast and so far at least it will install and update. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help.
