I'm not great w/ computer apps so bear with me please :-o. I want to install AVG Free 8.0. I had problems w/ my laptop back in August and took it to a guy to fix it. He put AVG Free on it among other things for me so I am accustomed to it and really like it.
I had to send my laptop to HP last week for a repair since it wasn't detecting wireless networks (found out there was a recall on this model for this reason) and they sent it back with Norton antivirus trial and I want to uninstall it. I went to add/remove and remove, it prompted "Do you want to restore Windows firewall to it's pre-installation state?" I have Windows XP pro svc pack 2 (if that matters :-o) What should I do? Also I just downloaded AVG but didn't run/extract it yet.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi

Yes you need to say yes to that question as it puts back the default Windows Firewall to its normal state as Nortons Firewall will be active.

Then once uninstalled run this to clear up Nortons left over reminents http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html

then run CCLeaner and its Cleaner and Registry tools, run the Registry tool until nothing is found.
