I am using AVG 2011 free edition. Is it necessary to be also using Spybot? I just wondered if there is any conflict by using both on my computer. Thanks for your input.

This is exactly what I use and I have no issues.

    I have

    AVG 2011 free version
    SpyBot with TeaTimer on
    Windows Firewall

Never have any issues. I do use several different scanners, but these are the only ones actually run active protection.

Spybot's Teatimer may slow your system/browsing down. IMHO, Spybot is not as good as it was years ago. Therefore I removed it some years ago. Up to you whether you want to use it.

I to found teatimer slowed down the browser too much.
I use Avast (free) plus MBAM.

When I used Spybot I disabled teatimer as it slowed the browser significantly. Just like you have Avast free but purchased MBAM PRO not that long ago. They play nice together.
