I'm having problems installing AVG anti-spyware and rootkit programs. Every time I download them its called a success, but then I get an error saying it failed and to reinstall. I've done so many times but get the same results.

I use AVG anti-virus, the latest version and it updates (automatically) and scans everyday with no problems.

I have downloaded and used several other spyware products...Superantispyware, Wise registry cleaner, Trend Micro rootkit and others with no problems.

I went to the AVG forum but its rather daunting. Maybe someone here knows a quick answer?

    What OS do you use?

Windows XP. I keep it up to date using the automatic update service. I checked today and all critical updates were already installed. I also use Firefox (latest version, security wise completely up to date) and have done so since 2004.

I use on line scans from Micro Trend, Panda or BitDefender...one at least once a month and used Microsofts on line scan yesterday. None have found anything outside of tracking cookies for over a year.

The only thing dug up by any anti-malware/virus product in the past year which registered more than a tracking cookie was by A-squared (which I've used since 2004) today. I ran the deep scan. I know I saved the log, but I can't find it. Anyway A-squared found something today it called a medium threat. I know I saved the log but I can't find it! Supposedly A-squared fixed this bug prior to my last attempt at downloading AVG-antispyware.

I do not have any problems with my computer. It runs very well...no slow starts, freezing, high-jackings, etc. Just this problem with AVG downloads.

Nevermind. I found the problem. When the installation wizard ask where to place the file it goes to \program files\Grisoft\anti-spywarewhatever.

Well the program file\Grissoft also contains my AVG anti-virus files.

I moved the Anti-Spyware files to a separate program file location and waalaa...it works!

Odd. On my computer, AVG AV and AVG AS coexist happily in 2 subfolders of the Grisoft folder. Whatever works...
